VIDEO: On MLK Day, It's Our Turn To Dream

Fifty years after Martin Luther King gave the “I Have a Dream” speech, mass incarceration has become a modern-day analogue to Jim Crow. Some 65 million Americans -- disproportionately people of color -- have criminal records.

Beyond Bars' “Our Turn to Dream” video reveals this phenomenon while pointing the way to a new movement for justice and equality. It features a dude you're bound to love named Rev. Kenneth Glasgow, who's in the trenches to build this movement:

 

 

That video includes an interview with Michelle Alexander, author of The New Jim Crow. We took some spare footage from her interview to create a quick piece here where she answers an old, tired question: “What’s Wrong with Black Folks?" Her answer is spot on:
